Update: Inspectors tracking reports of Fort Lupton ‘fire water’, Colorado

FOX 31 news

DENVER – “Noble Energy” inspectors are going door to door in Weld County offering to test the water for natural gas contamination.

It’s a story you saw first on Fox 31.

The response comes nearly a week after we first showed you the flames pouring from the faucets at Amee and Jesse Ellsworth’s Fort Lupton home.

Inspectors determined the flammable water is contaminated with natural gas. There are at least 8 gas wells within a ½ mile radius of the Ellsworth home. They are owned by Noble Energy and Anadarko Petroleum.

Now a total of 8 families ?who live within a few miles of the Ellsworth’s, all claim their water catches on fire too.

Many of them have filed complaints with the ” Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission” and asked that they have their water tested for natural gas contamination.

There are 13 thousand active gas and oil wells in Weld County. It is home to the most gas wells in Colorado. A little bit of Methane in the water is not harmful and can come from natural sources, like landfills. If the methane is cause by a natural gas leak–the gas build up can cause an explosion.

If you suspect your water is contaminated with natural gas or if it’s highly flammable, call the Colorado Oil and Gas conservation commission at 303-894-2100. You can also email Investigative Reporter Heidi Hemmat at heidi.hemmat@kdvr,com

Since when is a landfill a “natural” source of methane? A landfill is a MAN MADE source. You had me chuckling, please edit the article.
