Boil Water Alert Issued for Tallahassee, Florida

The city of Tallahassee issued a boil-water notice Friday for 8,000 customers in northwest Tallahassee after disinfection levels within the water system that serves that area fell below allowable levels, said Bill Behenna, a city spokesman.
The notice is for residents in an area north of West Tharpe Street and west of North Monroe Street.
Disinfection levels have since been restored to required levels, but the notice was required because of the earlier drop.
City officials say customers should bring water to a rolling boil for one minute before drinking, cooking, bathing, brushing teeth or washing dishes. This is especially important for infants, older residents and people with compromised immune systems.
Utility workers have taken samples of the water and hope to have results Saturday.
