CRESTWOOD, Illinois, June 10 — The Illinois attorney general has filed a lawsuit accusing Crestwood officials of secretly obtaining drinking water from a contaminated community well.
Lisa Madigan charges the village lied to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency more than 120 times about the source of its drinking water, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

San Diego, California: On May 29, 2009, over protests by the lobbyists for the American Dental Association and the Personal Care Products Council who oppose further evaluation of fluoride as cancer-causing, the State’s Qualified Experts that comprise the Carcinogen Identification Committee, as advisors to California EPA’s Office of Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), never-the-less established fluoride and its salts as meriting the highest priority they can recommend for further review toward including fluorides on a Prop 65 list of chemicals for which warnings for risks of cancer, birth defects, and reproductive toxicity are to be publicly posted.
Proposition 65 was enacted by voters of California in 1986 to assure that warnings of cancer, birth defects, and reproductive risks are publicly noticed so that consumers and workers are informed of the presence of such chemicals in the posted location, or of their inclusion in products, so that individuals may better control exposures and protections for themselves.

When his beets came in patchy, pushing through the soil with misshapen and discolored leaves, Perry Van Tassell did what most farmers would do: He watered more. And more. And more.
He came to believe his land had been tainted with Oust, a potent herbicide that kills plants by attacking their roots and leaves.
The pesticide had been spread across more than 100,000 acres of nearby public land at the direction of the Bureau of Land Management, which was hoping to prevent the spread of invasive weeds on land that had been scorched by wildfire.

The city of Tallahassee issued a boil-water notice Friday for 8,000 customers in northwest Tallahassee after disinfection levels within the water system that serves that area fell below allowable levels, said Bill Behenna, a city spokesman.

The town of Hudson is warning residents Friday to boil their drinking water until further notice.
The advisory does not apply to the Hudson Valley/Alstonvale system, according to a municipal statement issued today.

Details of a boil water notice should be released later today following a water main break Monday afternoon in Cape Coral.
The break initially closed all lanes of Nicholas Parkway near Southeast 4th Avenue.
The break was repaired and all lanes were reopened Monday evening.
